The mission of the Derick Kirk Foundation, Inc. is to support and fund music education and development in grades kindergarten through 12. The Foundation was created in 2007 when noted musician Derick Kirk succumbed to a rare form of cancer that same year at the age of 28. Derick was working on his Masters in Music at Marshall University at the time of his death. Today, his spirit continues through the ongoing work of the 501.c.3 charity

On September 15th 2009, the foundation received 501c3 certification as a non-profit organization and will be funded through public and private contributions, as well as sales of CDs, musical performance revenue and retail sales of donated merchandise along with products branded through The Derick Kirk Foundation.
